A new fully funded PhD position has opened at the University of Auckland in New Zealand for a potential candidate with experience in concrete structures and seismic/earthquake engineering. The supervision team consists of Dr Enrique del Rey Castillo, Dr Lucas Hogan, Dr Max Stephens and Dr Tom Allen, as well as a large team of industry advisors. The topic of the research project will be seismic strengthening of concrete floor diaphragms with Fibre Reinforced Polymers (FRP), and it’s likely to be mostly analytical/modelling. This work will be part of a larger project, involving two other PhD candidates, with a lot of experimental work already underway. The potential candidate’s job will be to translate the experimental work into structural behaviour and global response, aimed at developing a design guide for engineers to use (both in New Zealand and overseas).
